One Oyster Eye, Two Unexpected Milestones
When SO014 was first created, we had only one finished piece.
Then something slightly absurd happened.
Rock n Roll Bride selected the Blue Pupil Silver-Makeup Oyster Eye for its Sur-Real-Love bridal editorial. Around the same period, Etsy invited Shell Oracle to submit the very same design to the 2026 Etsy Design Awards.
We suddenly had two opportunities centered on the same oyster eye — and only one finished SO014.
The solution was simple in theory and difficult in practice: make another one.
But Shell Oracle works with natural oyster shells, and natural shells do not reproduce themselves to specification. Every suitable shell has its own curve, depth, edge, texture and character. A new SO014 can repeat the design language and handwork, but it can never reproduce the shell itself.
That small problem now feels like part of the work’s history.
SO014 has been selected as one of the 150 finalists in the 2026 Etsy Design Awards.
For us, the recognition means more than the selection of a single object. Angie and Yoori create Shell Oracle’s physical works by hand, while the studio expands their world through writing, film and visual storytelling.
Within the Shell Oracle universe, the oyster eye is an object of transformation, memory and choice. It does not decide what someone becomes. It gives them the power to decide.
That is why it feels strangely appropriate that SO014 itself has now lived more than one life.
